After carefully selecting an engagement ring, you popped the question, and your beloved said yes. Now for the next step: selecting your wedding date. Keep in mind that there is no wrong answer for what date you should pick. This is a magical moment for you and your partner, and no matter when you have your wedding, your love is sure to shine all year round. However, you may find yourself unsure of where to start. The average engagement is about 15 months long, and allowing yourself at least a year to plan out your once-in-a-lifetime wedding is ideal. We have compiled some points to consider for picking the right date for your wedding before sending out your save-the-date announcements.

Choose Budget-Friendly Months

Planning your wedding during a more economical month may allow you to shift your budget and put more funds into another important allotment, such as your honeymoon, wedding dress, or wedding bands. Saturdays in June, September, October tend to be peak dates for weddings, so prices are higher and you may struggle to book your desired venue and vendors while they are still available. Holiday-centered months, such as February and December, are also popular wedding months, resulting in the same scramble, or very early booking to secure the person or place.

Instead, opt for weekends in January, March, April, or November to find more competitive prices from your venues and vendors. Since these months are not as popular for weddings, services tend to be less expensive while still providing the same quality.

Use the Season to Set the Mood

The weather will affect your wedding’s aesthetic, so consider yours and your partner’s individual personalities and preferences to narrow down the perfect date. Ideally, your wedding should reflect your relationship style.

Are you a free-spirited couple with matching life-of-the-party personalities? Consider a lively outdoor wedding in the summer. Do you prefer staying in with your significant other and drinking mulled apple cider beside the fireplace? A fall wedding might be your style. Is your ideal date night spent driving around the block to admire your neighbor’s opulent Christmas light decorations while planning how you will adorn your home with holiday sparkle together? Choose a winter date.

Schedule Around Major Events

Speaking of the seasons, be sure your wedding date does not conflict with your other important dates and holidays. Take into consideration the people who you cannot imagine getting married without; if your maid of honor is pregnant, when will attending your wedding be easiest for her before the baby’

Also, avoid tax holiday weekends, as this may increase your stress level at work and make it more difficult to take off for your honeymoon. If you plan on getting hitched in a large city like Chicago, research the dates of major sporting events, conventions, concerts, festivals, and other popular happenings. Planning around these dates will ensure your guests can find accommodations if they come from out-of-town.

Consider Meaningful Dates

Think about all the dates symbolic to you and your partner: the day you first met, when you officially became a couple, or any other date that has been crucial for your relationship. While you may not be able to get married on that exact date, you may be able to book a day close to it.

This will also help you to remember your wedding anniversary so you can avoid a mishap down the road. You can also engrave your wedding bands with your wedding date or any other important date as a permanent and personalized reminder.
